At Computer - 3

Chilly Suggestion

Today is crisp and cold
In the land where hot resides
Breaking up the mold
weather laughing chides.

That things are not so set
as would seem to be
and fate is just a bet
between some company.

Whom doth not show its faces
to those who are dumbfounded,
not even minor traces
for the ever knowledge bounded.

A leaf has better chances
to know its destination.
A knowing in its glances
of a powerless situation.

Lost drivers must accept
road blocked with congestion
clear mapping left inept
A chilly suggestion.

At Computer - 2

Raining

Raining outside the window
dropping from heaven's fall
wishing on each tear that slides
streaking down the wall.

soft chimes tis like a melody
splashing in the wet leaves
reminding me of a memory
long past in days so young.

thirsty branches on the trees
reach out for quenching drink
as I watch cleaning out my glass
in the ever dish filled sink

giving musty air perfume
sweet pouring from the clouds
the nose does glad consume
the gently weeping sky

closing eyes in damp reverie
i listen to the tapping
splashing in the puddles
I find my self in peace collapsing.

At Computer - 1

I'm changing the format a little of this blog to be a writing blog. Perhaps just to count how many times I sit at a little screen, and also just to write for fun. This is the poetry challenge. The poetry of sitting at my computer amidst work to take a moment of time to observe and reflect on life. When I have written 365 observations, I will publish this and give it to my friends and family, since I'm pretty sure this blog is not read by anyone except the occassional advertiser or lewd comment crusader.

So Here Goes Poem # 1: Up Into the Falling Down.

It would be nice to rip off my body
to let my spirit free into the sky.
If this could be my pleasure
I really wouldn't need to die.
For then I could float in mossy forests
and dance with the mist
that hangs on ancient ferns
this would be heaven I do insist.
The clouds would be my living room
and the storms would be my feelings
the sun would be my best friend
and the butterflies would do my dealings.
Setting out for Cappadocia
I would alight upon a chimney
and watch a sun at setting call
so that I could be excited for the morning to enthrall.
When the rise of day returns
I would dive into the sea
and sing with the whales
making their way along with me.
When autumn comes I would travel
to where the cherry blossoms fall
so in swirling petals I could spin
with a soft pink and fluttering shawl.
In winter I would visit
the icy palaces of antartica
and waddle skate with crazy penguins
that do not know a thaw
and into the snow I would hurdle
myself into the sky
up into the falling down
of white lace drops that grace mine eye.

These pictures make me happy...

Sometimes I look at pictures and am reminded in that totally cheesy way, why I like earth and people in general. These do that for me!

Jim Carrey

Jim Carrey has been an actor I've always admired. People either love him or hate him, but I think he is pretty fantastic. His site also does not fail and is eerily wonderful! Check it Out!

Dining in the dark

This is another genius restaurant, where you eat in pitch darkness. I can personally attest to this restaurant, it was one of the coolest dining experiences of my life. The food is just OK, but the challenge of eating in utter inky darkness was worth the price of admission tenfold. I highly recommend this and with a bigger group the better so that you guys can hear all the foibles that people are going through as they try and eat normally! It's awesome, look here!

If I could have a Halloween party anywhere,

it would be here.

Life is but a Dream.

by: Lewis Carroll (1832-1898)

A BOAT, beneath a sunny sky
Lingering onward dreamily
In an evening of July--

Children three that nestle near,
Eager eye and willing ear,
Pleased a simple tale to hear--

Long has paled that sunny sky;
Echoes fade and memories die;
Autumn frosts have slain July.

Still she haunts me, phantomwise,
Alice moving under skies
Never seen by waking eyes.

Children yet, the tale to hear,
Eager eye and willing ear,
Lovingly shall nestle near.

In a Wonderland they lie,
Dreaming as the days go by,
Dreaming as the summers die;

Ever drifting down the stream--
Lingering in the golden gleam--
Life, what is it but a dream?

This guys photography is INSANE!

I want to be at these parties!

Steve Martin and the Steep Canyon Rangers

Was AMAZING! Steve Martin did an interview with Dave Barry and then went on to play banjo the rest of the evening. Cracking jokes the whole time! It was a highlight performance to see in a lifetime despite being in such a commercial venue(LA Nokia Thater). I will give the Nokia theater the applause for amazing sound though, super crisp and well engineered to the room! Wow Steve Martin still can kick ass! I'll try not to think about the Pink Panther movies too much now...

Something to do...

Talk like a Shakespeare Day!

Today is the 445th anniversary of the birth of William Shakespeare. In honor of this occasion, today is Talk Like Shakespeare Day. Here are some ways to do it:

1. Instead of you, say thou. Instead of y’all, say thee.
2. Rhymed couplets are all the rage.
3. Men are Sirrah, ladies are Mistress, and your friends are all called Cousin.
4. Instead of cursing, try calling your tormenters jackanapes or canker-blossoms or poisonous bunch-back’d toads.
5. Don’t waste time saying “it,” just use the letter “t” (’tis, t’will, I’ll do’t).
6. Verse for lovers, prose for ruffians, songs for clowns.
7. When in doubt, add the letters “eth” to the end of verbs (he runneth, he trippeth, he falleth).
8. To add weight to your opinions, try starting them with methinks, mayhaps, in sooth or wherefore.
9. When wooing ladies: try comparing her to a summer’s day. If that fails, say “Get thee to a nunnery!”
10. When wooing lads: try dressing up like a man. If that fails, throw him in the Tower, banish his friends and claim the throne.

Mourning pink animal cookies!

Since Mother's Cookies closed their doors a couple months ago I thought I would pay homage by including the recipe for them here...Man these were the best, but maybe you can do right by them....

Vanilla Sugar Animal Cookies with Royal Icing

About 3 dozen 2 1/2 inch cookies

1 2/3 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup softened unsalted butter
3/4 cup plus 2 tablespoons sugar
1 egg at room temperature, beaten
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Royal icing (recipe follows) and colored sugars if decorating

1. Sift together flour, baking powder, and salt in a bowl and set aside.
2. In stand mixer, cream together the butter and sugar on medium speed for several minutes until light and fluffy.
3. With mixer on low speed, gradually add the egg and vanilla and mix until well combined. Add the flour mixture gradually. Mix until fully incorporated and the dough is smooth and uniform.
4. Divide dough into 2 pieces and flatten into 1/2 inch thick discs.
5. Wrap dough and refrigerate for 2 hours. At this point the dough can be double wrapped and frozen for up to 2 weeks.
6. When you are ready to bake the cookies, preheat oven to 325°F. Grease several cookie sheets or line them with parchment paper.
7. Place dough on a lightly floured surface and dust with more flour. Gently roll the dough 1/8 inch thick.
8. Using a cookie cutter, cut out cookies and place on sheets about 1 inch apart.
9. Bake for 14–16 minutes, rotating sheets halfway through, until edges are golden brown. Transfer cookies to wire racks with a metal spatula to cool completely.
10. Once cookies are cooled, decorate them with icing and colored sugars.

Royal Icing
2 egg whites
1 tablespoon lemon juice
3 cups powdered sugar
Food coloring in desired colors

1. Using a mixer with the whisk attachment, combine all the ingredients and whisk for several minutes on high speed until the mixture is thick and shiny opaque white. It should have the consistency of glue. If it is too thin, add more powdered sugar by teaspoonfuls as needed. If it is too thick, add water by teaspoonfuls as needed.
2. Divide icing into bowls for coloring. Keep the bowls covered or the icing will dry and harden. Add food color to icing to achieve desired hues.
