At Computer - 4

My Dreams are Keeping Me Awake

At night in my sleep,
My dreams are keeping me awake.
Through the sheets they do creep,
with lusty fingers they do take.

The nightmares shake the calm
while the dreams so wake the spirit;
that there is no way to palm,
slumber's song wishing I could hear it.

The body tosses and turns,
to find a perfect trance in repose;
but the ardor of concerns,
tosses my limbs with turned up nose.

To the wish for gentle silence
that passes so rarely on its way;
cradling my nervous penance
for things forgotten to convey.

If for only just a moment,
my tired thoughts allay;
then sleep, heaven sent,
would be the order on my tray.

And the dreams that keep awake
what should be put to bed;
would shut eyes for mercies' sake
to forget words left unsaid.
